Dutch return of ancient artefacts today
An agreement will be signed today between Sri Lanka and the Netherlands, to transfer ownership of several cultural artefacts taken away by the Dutch during the colonial era. Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs Minister Vidura Wickremanayake, Ministry officials, and a Dutch cultural delegation led by the Netherlands Culture and Media State Secretary Gunay Uslu, will participate in the event at the ministry premises in Battaramulla. The objects include the famous Lewke’s canon, two Gold and one Silver kastanes (ceremonial sword), Singalese knife and two guns.
