Eastern road development projects to be completed with ADB assistance – State Minister

State Rural Road Development Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan said that all the rural road development projects which have been stopped in the middle of the work under the Integrated Road Development Programme (I Road Project) in the Eastern Province with the help of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) should be completed immediately.

The State Minister said this about the current progress of the rural road development projects currently being carried out under the Integrated Road Development Programme (I Road Project) implemented by the Road Development Authority in the Eastern Province with the assistance of the Asian Development Bank and the problems that have arisen in the implementation of those projects. A discussion regarding the settlement was held at the State Rural Roads Development Ministry in Sethsiripaya on Tuesday (12).

Here, the State Minister instructed the Project Director of the Integrated Road Development Programme (I Road Project) to give priority to the rural road development projects which have started work in the districts of Ampara, Trincomalee and Batticaloa and to finish them promptly.

Also, the project engineer was instructed to speed up the installation of road sign boards, white lines on the roads, pedestrian crossing markings etc. on the roads that have been completed.

A group of officials including MPs D. Weerasinghe, Kapila Athukorala, Rural Road Development State Ministry Additional Secretary B. Ranaweera, Project Director of Integrated Road Development Programme participated in this progress review meeting.
