EC approves subsidies, salary increments for State employees suspended prior to 2024 Prez Election
The Election Commission (EC) has granted approval for the resumption of various programmes including fertiliser subsidy for farmers and fuel subsidy for fishermen, salary increments for State employees and other essential relief measures for the people which were temporarily suspended in view of the 2024 Presidential Election.
The Election Commission stated that there is no objection to payment of increased fertiliser subsidy to farmers in order to purchase fertiliser needed for the 2024/25 Maha cultivation season, payment of fuel subsidy for the fishermen, payment of the arrears in September and the increased allowance for pensions to be paid in October.
In a statement issued yesterday (04), the Chairman of the Election Commission R. M. A. L. Rathnayake said that the suspended projects that would unduly promote candidates or political parties during the recent Presidential Election can be resumed and approval of the Election Commission won’t be necessary to proceed.
The Election Commission further requested to refrain from misusing State properties leading up to the General Election which will be held on November 14, and informed that it is essential to obtain prior approval from the Commission for appointments, promotions and transfers of State sector employees and officials in order to limit them during the period of the General Election until it is concluded.
