Eleven arrested over former Pera VC’s house attack remanded

Eleven out of the 12 students whose studentship was revoked in connection with the attack on the former Vice-Chancellor Senior Professor Athula Senaratne of the Peradeniya University and his son and caused damage to his official residence have been arrested after they surrendered to the police. They were remanded till December 22 yesterday.

Peradeniya Police said that six students surrendered Monday (12) at 9.30 pm and another four students surrendered yesterday (13) morning. All of them are students of Arts and Science Faculties.

Out of the 12 students whose studentship was cancelled by the university administration, eight are students of the Arts Faculty and the rest are from the Science Faculty. Police are conducting investigations to arrest two more students who have been identified through CCTV footage.

The suspectstudents are to be charged under disorderly conduct, threatening behaviour and damaging government property.
