Encourage public to install solar panels – SLSEA
Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority (SLSEA) has expressed serious concern over the difficulties in providing energy continuously and said professionals in the energy sector should encourage the public to install solar panels to obtain the required energy.
According to SLSEA such a move would immensely help reduce our foreign currency outflow while consumers also will receive environmentally friendly energy for their day to day life.
SLSEA, Chairman Eng. Ranjith Sepala made these observations at the 36th annual conference of the OPA conducted under the theme `Sri Lanka’s Challenging Path Towards Economic Recovery and Stability’.
The two-day conference was inaugurated by President Ranil Wickremesinghe, making a remarkable note on the importance of investing in capital, human resources for Sri Lanka’s economic advancement.
Speaking further Chairman Sepala said the conference is a timely need at this crucial juncture since everybody is discussing the need to solve the existing energy crises in the country.
He said Sri Lanka spends a colossal sum of money on fuel imports every year and responsible authorities should take necessary steps to produce our own energy from wind and solar power.
“It is not politicians but professionals who are also responsible for the prevailing energy crisis in the country,” Sepala further said.
SLSEA Chairman further highlighted that Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority has the mandate to develop the country’s energy resource and also to encourage investors willing to visit Sri Lanka in developing this sector. Eng. Sepala also stated that SLSEA is in discussion with the relevant sectors in regard to the development of the country’s renewable energy and this could achieve the expected targets before 2030.
He also assured that the country could produce renewable energy without any difficulties as long as the natural wind power and the sun is available. He said in addition biomass which is environmentally friendly must also be promoted in the country as it would help reduce the fuel imports.
