0 4

The Indian pace duo of Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah wreaked havoc on the England batsmen, with Shami taking 4 for 22 and Bumrah claiming 3 for 32, leading India to an easy 100-run win over England in their World Cup match at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow yesterday.

India posted 229/9 wickets in 50 overs, while England’s batting lineup struggled and was bowled out for 129 in 34.5 overs. Shami and Bumrah did most of the damage, sealing India’s sixth consecutive win and propelling them to the top of the points table with 12 points. Skipper Rohit Sharma’s outstanding knock of 87 earned him the Man of the Match award.

Opener Rohit Sharma was the only successful batter with a fine knock of 87 while the experienced Virat Kohli was out for a duck facing only 9 balls. Willey claimed the crucial wicket of Kohli.

India, after being put into bat, first were 40 for 3 after 11.5 overs, but K.L Rahul (39) and skipper Rohit Sharma (87 in 101 balls with 10 fours and 3 sixes) led a strong recovery, building up the innings.

Suryakumar Yadav who replaced injured Hardik Pandya, played a valuable supporting role, scoring 49 in 47 balls with 4 fours and a six.

Aside from Willey’s impressive 3-wicket haul, Chris Woakes and leggie Adil Rashid took 2 wickets each to restrict the Indian side.
