Vesak Poya stands as the pinnacle of reverence for Buddhists worldwide, commemorating the Birth, Enlightenment, and Passing of the Buddha.
Across the globe, devotees adorn their surroundings with radiant Vesak lanterns, vibrant light displays, and fragrant floral arrangements, marking the occasion with profound significance.
Sri Lanka mirrors this devotion, yet amidst the splendid material manifestations, a deeper essence beckons. Beyond the outward rituals of Amisa Pooja lies the essence of Prathipaththi Pooja – the spiritual homage that resonates with the Buddha’s teachings. In that light, ‘Enlight 2024’ emerges not merely as another commemoration of Vesak, but also as a transformative journey, guiding individuals towards a profound spiritual awakening.
The programme which will be conducted in English is scheduled to take place on May 17 at the BMICH, parallel to the commemoration of Vesak Poya which falls on the following week. The programme will be from 6.00 pm to 9.00 pm, starting with a Buddha Vandana, then a Dhamma sermon, guided meditation session, and a Dhamma discussion to answer the questions that the audience may have. The sermon will be conducted by Ven. Pothuhera Mahindasiri Thera.
