Business magnate Dhammika Perera was appointed National List Parliamentarian and was sworn in as a Member of Parliament yesterday.
Perera said he was aware of the current economic crisis faced by the country and added that he entered Parliament with the intention of providing solutions to them. The newly appointed Member of Parliament said that at a time when people are losing jobs, he has plans to create job opportunities. “I am expecting a suitable portfolio to execute my plan.”
He represented Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna and filled the void created by the resignation of former Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa. Perera was also the former Chairman of Board of Investment and Secretary of the Ministry of Transport. While heading Boards in diversified top companies Perera also holds a National Diploma in Technology (NDT) from the University of Moratuwa.
He is tipped to be appointed as Minister of the newly created Ministry of Technology and Investment Promotion.
