Environment Ministry under President now

The post of Environment Ministry held by former MP Naseer Ahmed has been handed over to President Ranil Wickremesinghe. Under Article 33(3) of the Constitution, the President has taken this decision by determining that the position of Environment Minister should be in his charge after consulting the Prime Minister.

The related gazette notification was announced by President’s Secretary Saman Ekanayake on October 12 night. Ahmed’s position as a Member of Parliament was annulled by a Supreme Court order and accordingly his position as Environment Minister became vacant with immediate effect.
