“Essential Public Services Act only protects Govt”
Kurunegala District SJB MP Nalin Bandara said in Parliament yesterday that the Essential Public Services Act has been enacted not to provide services to the people but to protect the present Government.
He said that the Government is trying to suppress the government and semi-government services by bringing such Bills.
The MP said this while commenting on the gazette notification under the Essential Public Services Act. He said that the Government’s own intelligence agencies have said that political parties affiliated to the Government will get only 10 percent of the votes if there is a local government election. Therefore, the Government should give the opportunity to test the real opinion of the people.
“In order to prevent defeat, pressure is being put on the public servants,” Nalin Bandara said.
“MP S.B. Dissanayake says that he even looked at an auspicious time to cast his vote. Even though he said that, he knows that his party will be defeated. A government should be created by people’s mandate in order for this country to move forward. When that happens, the people will give their fullest support to the government to move forward. Therefore, we request the Government not to take detours without votes,” Nalin Bandara said.
