Establishment of a Judicial Training Academy

In pursuance of a Cabinet Memorandum submitted by the Minister of Justice the Cabinet of Ministers has appointed an Expert Committee to study and submit recommendations on the establishment of a Judicial Training Academy and the inaugural meeting of the same was held yesterday at the Auditorium of the Ministry of Justice co-chaired by the Minister of Justice Ali Sabry (P.C) and His Lordship Justice Buwaneka Aluwihare, Judge of the Supreme Court.

M.M.P.K. Mayadunne, Secretary to the Ministry of Justice and the committee members Justice Ruwan Fernando, Judge of the Court of Appeal, B. Wijerathne, Former Secretary of the Agriculture Ministry and the former Director Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration, Saliya Pieris, President’s Counsel, President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka and architect Murad Ismail participated for the meeting.

The committee is supposed to conceptualize the establishment of a world class Judicial Academy in Sri Lanka within 3 months period which will cater the judicial training requirement of the country and that of the SAARC region to improve the quality of judges and the justice system in Sri Lanka.
