Excise Officers rob Rs.1 Mn from Beedi maker
A person engaged in the production of Beedi has filed a complaint with the Walasmulla Police that a group of Excise Officers abducted and assaulted him and robbed one million rupees.
A Police officer said that the businessman who was allegedly attacked is being treated in the hospital and an investigation has been started regarding the complaint.
A person named K.P.Nissanka, a resident of Maraketiya, Rajapuragoda, Walasmulla who runs a licensed beedi business has lodged this complaint. He said that his licence expired last June 26 and was late to renew it. He has told Police that a team of officers including the Tangalle Excise Unit OIC visited his house on September 18 and said that they would take the beedi leaves into their custody and file a case against him. The businessman complained that the officials demanded Rs. 1.4 million not to take legal action. He further stated in his complaint that he was then abducted in a three-wheeler and released after forcibly taking Rs.one million from him.
