Excise Officers seize Rs. 2 Mn worth of moonshine

Sri Jayewardenepura Excise Station Officers arrested a person with moonshine worth more than Rs. 2 million, in the Battaramulla, Akuregoda area.

Excise Officers seized 12 polythene bags and one plastic can containing 680 bottles of moonshine.

Excise sources said the suspect was supplying moonshine to the Kaluaggala area from Akuregoda and he took orders over the phone.

The suspect is to be produced before the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court.

The raid was carried out by a team of Excise Officers including Western Province Assistant Commissioner of Excise M. Jayantha De Silva and Colombo Excise Superintendent Upali Jayasinghe, Sri Jayewardenepura Excise OIC Nandana Perera, Excise Inspector M.M.I. Mahawaththa, Excise Sergeants Major K.A.S.P. Perera and M.T.P. Cooray and Excise Corporal Harsha Kumara.
