Fair solution to Teacher – Principal salary issue – Minister

Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said the Ministerial Sub-committee appointed to look into salary anomalies of teachers and principals gave due respect and recognition to their work in moulding the future generation.

They help the students to be active citizens and professionals with humane qualities,the Minister said.

The members of the Committee were always of the stance that a fair solution should be provided for their problems.

The committee also suggested that the services of teachers, principals, teacher advisors and education administrators should be integrated into a “closed service.”

The Committee also recommended that the solutions to their issues be announced in the Budget and implemented in stages, taking into account the impact on the overall economy due to the epidemic situation in the country.Further, the Cabinet of Minister have decided on granting a special allowance of Rs.5,000 for teachers and principals who are on duty in September and October as well. Minister Ranatunga made these remarks during discussion held with representatives of several teachers’ trade unions in Minuwangoda yesterday.
