Fairly heavy showers expected in parts of the Island

The Meteorology Department says showers or thunder showers will occur over most places of the Island during the afternoon or night.

Fairly heavy showers above 75 mm can be expected at some places in Uva, Central, Sabaragamuwa and Easten provinces.

Showers may occur in coastal areas of southern province during the morning, it said.

General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Sea Areas:

Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in the sea areas around the island.

Winds will be southerly and speed will be 20-30 kmph.

Wind speed can increase up to 40 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar.

The sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar will be moderate.

Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
