Fake currency note printing press raided; two arrested

Officers of the Gampaha Division Crime Investigation Bureau raided a fake currency note printing place run at a rented house in Daranagama, Delgoda and arrested two people along with printing equipment.

Based on information received by the Deputy Police Inspector of the Criminal Investigation Department, a person was arrested in the Makevita area of Gampaha with six Rs. 500 and 17 Rs.50 fake notes in his possession.

Following further questioning of the suspect, a person living in a rented house in Delgoda Daranagama was arrested.

A number of devices including a laptop computer, a laser printer, a monitor, a mobile phone and 12 fake notes of the Rs.500 denomination were found in his possession by the police.

The two suspects aged 23 and 28 are residents of the Makevita and Pethiyagoda areas.

Under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police Jagath Rohana in charge of Gampaha Division and Assistant Superintendent of Police Gampaha 1 Thusitha Kumara, under the guidance of Station Commander of Gampaha Division Criminal Investigation Bureau Chief Inspector Kosala Liyanarachchi, Inspector Dushyantha Perera, Sub Inspectors B.K.N.U. Udayashantha, W.D.M. Wickramasinghe, Police Sergeant Pushpananda and Police Constable Hiripitiya joined the raid. The suspects are to be produced in the Gampaha court.
