0 26

The Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (SLCERT) has warned the public against a fraudulent social media message claiming that a leading bank in Sri Lanka is offering special rewards to mark the upcoming Vap Poya Day.

In a statement, SLCERT said the message, which is circulating on social media, falsely claims that the bank is offering a special gift in celebration of Vap Poya Day, which falls on Sunday (25).

The organisation confirmed that the bank concerned has not announced or introduced any such reward scheme.

According to SLCERT, the message is believed to be part of a scam aimed at obtaining personal information, banking details and other sensitive information from unsuspecting individuals.

The organisation warned that individuals who fall victim to the scam could also face the risk of having their bank accounts compromised.

Accordingly, SLCERT has urged the public not to click on links accompanying such messages and to remain vigilant against fraudulent offers circulating online. (Newswire)
