Family of four hospitalised after suicide attempt

The Rambukkana Police said that a couple in the Pathtampitiya area of Rambukkana gave poison to their two daughters and then both of them also drank the poison and all four were admitted to the Mawanella Base Hospital yesterday (14). Police said that the 28-year-old father, 27-year-old mother and their four-year-old daughter and the other 10-month-old daughter are undergoing treatment at Mawanella Hospital.

The family are residents of Rambukkana Pathampitiya Kempiti Kanda area and the elder daughter goes to a pre-school in the area.

The Police said that during the initial investigations, it was revealed that there has been a family dispute between the couple for some time and due to that, there has been a conflict between the two for some time. The father poisoned the elder daughter and the mother the younger daughter and both of them drank the poison and collapsed screaming.

A group of neighbours rushed to the house on hearing their screams.

Later, some neighbours admitted the four to Mawanella Hospital, transporting them in two three-wheelers.

The condition of the two children is not serious, a spokesperson of the hospital said.

The spokesman added that the parents are receiving treatment and their health is improving. Police are investigating the case.
