Fazil Marija to coach Trinity College

Trinity College has appointed a new panel of coaches for their Rugby teams for the year 2023. The coaching panel will be headed by the experienced former Kingswood College, Kandy SC and National Rugby Captain Fazil Marija and he will be supported by Buddhika Thalagampala as assistant coach. In addition, Damith Dissanayake under18 forwards coach, Sanushka Abeywickrama under 18 backs coach, Priyantha Gunaratne under 16 head coach, K T Chaturanga under 16 forwards coach, Suranga Tennekoon under 18 forwards coach, Tharinda Ratwatte under 16 to 20 kicking coach, Tharaka Algama and Ravindu Wickramasinghe under 16 to 20 strength and conditioning coach, these coaches have commenced their assignments and their wealth and experience will mould the budding ruggerites Trinity College’s rugby governing body Old Trintians Rugby Scrummage gives a big support for the game.

Fazil Marija is the full-time Kandy Sports Club rugby coach for the last couple of years. This former national rugby player has given his best and guided Kandy SC to win the league and the knockouts. He is knowledgeable sevens and fifteens.coach who mastered his rugby skills at Kingswood College under his cousin Ronny Ibrahim’s guidance. Fazil represented his school teams from Under13 to Under20. He played for 1st XV in 2003 as a fly half, and went on to play well and helped the team emerge unbeaten triple champions in 2004 As the captain of Kingswood College 1st XV, he became the best Schoolboy player in the Singer International 7’s tournament and also in the Golden Key Schools 7’s tournament, in which Kingswood College won both Championships under his captaincy.

Assistant coach Buddhika Thalagampola the Kandy SC forwards coach last season he also coached Kingswood College. Buddhika Thalagampola started his schooling at Magammana Junior school from there he moved to Ruwanwella Central and later joined Isipathana College and played for the senior side from2000 to 2002. His club career started with CR and FC and later Kandy SC and also was a national player. He is a qualified World Rugby Level two accredited coach. He had a short coaching stint with Trinity College and Isipathana College before moving to Kandy SC.
