Fears of deadly bacteria spreading fever in Galle prisons; 2 dead
Doctors at Karapitiya Teaching Hospital fear a risk of fever with rashes, caused by a deadly bacteria called meningococcal, spreading within Galle prisons.
Several patients with these symptoms have been reported from Galle prisons in the last few days, while two inmates with these symptoms, who were admitted to Karapitiya Hospital, have died due to the bacteria.
Doctors say that this bacterium is more harmful to those whose health condition is weak due to the use of drugs.
Health staff, including doctors, have been instructed to wear face masks when dealing with patients with such symptoms.
