Badulla Senior Superintendent of Police Sujith Wedamulla said that 15 GCE (A/L) students who were intoxicated with cannabis were found in a jungle area in Badulla on Saturday.
He said they were nabbed on a tip off received by the intelligence unit. They were students of two boys’ schools in Badulla and a Hali-ela mixed school. Investigations have revealed that some of these students are residents of Dehiattakandiya and Bibile areas who are residing in hostels in Badulla for schooling.
The parents of the students were summoned, warned and released, but the police were instructed to follow up on them, Wedamulla said.
Wedamulla said that parents should be vigilant about their children as there is a risk of some students becoming addicted to drugs while attending tuition classes in and around Badulla.
