Final Randoli Maha PerahEra today
The final Randoli Maha Perahera of the Esala Festival in Kandy will parade on city roads tonight (30).
The Perahera, which departs northbound from the Dalada Maligawa at 7.03 pm, will travel along Dalada Street, Yatinuwara Street, Kanda Street, D.S. Senanayake Street and return from Raja Weediya. After the Perahera returns, the Perahara of the Dalada Maligawa goes to Asgiriya Gedige Rajamaha Vihara (Adahana Maluwa) along with four Devale processions. According to the ancient ritual, the Perahera casket will be placed there.
Later, the processions of the four main Devales will return to the temples and perform rituals. After that, they will proceed to Gatambe Ferry along Katukele Street and perform the water-cutting ceremony.
After performing the water-cutting ritual early in the morning on August 31, the procession of the four Devales will reach the God Ganapathi Devale in Katukele.
After performing the offerings there, the Devale Perahara will proceed along the Kandy Municipal Council Road and will join the main Perahera which starts from Gedige Vihara.
After that, the Perahera moves along D.S. Senanayake Street, comes up Raja Weediya and goes around the Dalada Maligawa Square three times and enters. With that, this year’s Kandy Esala festival comes to an end.
