Fines up to Rs. 200,000 for casting another’s vote
The fine imposed on those found to have voted fraudulently in an election has been increased from Rs. 500 to Rs. 200,000.
According to the Election Commission, people who are found guilty of those charges can be sentenced to imprisonment of not more than one year.
The commission also states that it has taken steps to tighten the relevant laws under the Election Special Provisions Act No. 23 of 2023 regarding fraudulent acts such as casting another person’s vote and impersonating someone else and voting.
