First digital birth certificate in country issued yesterday

The first digital birth certificate in Sri Lanka was issued yesterday (5), under the patronage of Home Affairs State Minister Ashoka Priyantha said.

The issuing of the digital birth certificate programme was held at the Kalutara District Secretariat under the e-Population Register programme, the Home Affairs Ministry stated.

Addressing the event, State Minister Ashoka Priyantha said that the digital birth certificate national programme which was launched in Kalutara will be expanded to other areas soon. He further added that the number contained on the digital national birth certificate will also be utilized by converting it as the National Identity Card (NIC) number as per the international standard and practice through digital technology.
