First ever National Supply Chain Day celebrations set for Oct. 24

The first ever National Supply Chain Day celebrations in Sri Lanka will be held on October 24, 2023 in Shangri-La, Colombo by the Institute of Supply and Materials Management (ISMM), President ISMM Jayantha Gallehewa told the media on Thursday.

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena will grace the event as the Chief Guest with Dr. Ramesh Pathirana, Minister of Industries & Plantation Industries as the “Guest of Honour” with participation of eminent supply chain professionals, ISMM members and many other distinguished guests for the first ever “National Supply Chain Excellence Awards” for both organizations (under three categories of large, medium and small) & Individuals followed with 51st Anniversary Banquet Dinner of ISMM.

Considering the global and national importance of Supply Chain Management (SCM) and also to facilitate wider prosperity and growth of economic affairs of Sri Lanka through training and developing Supply Chain professionals, on the recommendations submitted by ISMM & as per the Cabinet approval, the government declared October as the ‘National Supply Chain Day’.

ISMM will organise the event in collaboration with the Ministry of Industries & Industries Development Board (IDB). A ”National Supply Chain Day Seminar and issuing of commemorative stamp for “National Supply Chain Day” has being planned during the morning session and in the evening session “National Supply Chain Excellence Awards will be held to select the best “Supply Chain Practicing Organization of the Year and the best “Supply Chain Professional of the Year”.

The theme for the seminar is “Reshaping the future of Sri Lanka through Sustainable Supply Chain Ecosystem”. The Chief Guest, Keynote Speaker & Guest of Honour for the Morning Session will be Dr. Ramesh Pathirana, Minister of Industries & Plantation Industries, Chris Oanda, President, International Federation of Purchasing and Supply Management (IFPSM) Markku Henttinen, Chief Executive Officer of International Federation of Purchasing and Supply Management (IFPSM) will grace the occasion.

The National Supply Chain Day Seminar with “three Technical Sessions & CEO Forum” will bring together industry leaders, experts, and professionals to discuss the latest trends, best practices, and innovations in the field of supply chain management. It will provide a unique opportunity for all participants to gain valuable insights, network with peers, and contribute to industries growth and success. Prof Lakshman R Watawala, President ICMA will be the Session Chairman for First Technical Session, Mahesh Perera, CEO ICTA will be the Session Chairman for Second Technical Session & Prof H. D Karunaratne, Vice Chancellor, University of Colombo will be the Session Chairman for Third Technical Session.
