Five arrested at BIA for attempting to flee to Italy with fake visas

Five Sri Lankans were arrested by the Immigration and Emigration Border Surveillance Unit at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) yesterday morning for attempting to flee to Italy using fake visas. The five suspects are between 14 and 46 of ages.

Preliminary investigations by the Department of Immigration and Emigration have revealed that the passengers had earlier travelled to Italy and this time, they had obtained the fake visas through a broker in Mannar.

The suspects were handed over to the airport CID officers.
