Five arrested for assaulting two PCs in Piliyandala

The Piliyandala Police have arrested five persons including a driver of a three wheeler, who severely beat two Police officers with an iron rod (27) near the Somaweera Chandrasiri ground in Piliyandala while a large crowd was watching.

These two Police Constables attached to the Piliyandala Police have sustained serious injuries following the assault and Police have taken the iron rod and the three wheeler belonging to the suspects into custody.

The two officers have been transferred to Colombo South Teaching Hospital, Kalubowila after receiving preliminary treatment at the Piliyandala District Hospital.However, one of them, who was in a serious condition has been transferred to the Colombo National Hospital by yesterday evening.

The motorcycle carrying the two constables in civilian clothes and the suspects’ vehicle had collided near the rear entrance of the stadium at around 12.45 am during the musical show held at the Somaweera Chandrasiri Stadium.

The persons who were in the threewheeler had started assaulting the Constables following an argument.The two police officers had fellen down on the road.Police said that a group of people had gathered at the place to take the two officers to the Piliyandala Hospital.

Piliyandala Police OIC IP Dinesh Attaragama arrived at the scene and arrested the five persons involved. The suspects are residents of Kolamunna, Piliyandala.
