Five men held for cyber sexual harassment

Police Media Spokesperson SDIG Ajith Rohana stated that a trend has emerged of suspects taking revenge

on their ex-partners by publishing their nude pictures and videos on social media when their ex-partners break up.

He said a number of complaints have been received in this regard over the last few days, following which five suspects have been arrested thus far.

They were arrested in Pitakotte, Rajagiriya, Piliyandala, Kandy and Imbulgoda.

SDIG Ajith Rohana further noted that four of them aged between 23 and 39 were arrested for publishing nude images and videos of women on social media. A 31-year-old man from Gampaha has been arrested on charges of hacking into a woman’s social media profile and posting nude photos.SDIG Rohana said the suspects have been produced before the respective Magistrates.

He said the Police Computer Crimes Division will take legal actions against such incidents under the relevant provisions of the Penal Code and the Obscene Publication Act.
