The Kebithigollewa police have arrested five more suspects who were involved in the murder of police officer during a protest held in the Rambakepoowewa in Kebithigollewa following the death of a person due to an attack by a wild elephant.
Accordingly, the police have arrested 20 people in connection with the murder and the unrest. Among them was a monk who was said to have provoked the people. There were two women among those arrested and later the police released one woman after arresting her husband. Police say that the main suspect is among the suspects who were taken into custody. The suspect, who fled and hid after this incident, was also later arrested by the police.
A detention order has been obtained in connection with one of the initially arrested suspects and the police are conducting investigations while the remaining 13 suspects were remanded until November 10 after being produced in court.The police mentioned that there is also a woman among the suspects who were remanded. The other five suspects were also scheduled to be produced in court.
