Five Railway employees suspended for theft of over 500 litres of diesel
Railways General Manager H.M.K.W. Bandara suspended five Railway employees including the Station Officer of the security department of the Anuradhapura Railway Station in connection with the theft of 545 litres of diesel from the Anuradhapura Railway Depot.
Station Officer Sub-Inspector B.K.C.U. Silva, Sergeant M.A. Siriwardena, Security Officer H.M.N. Jayarathne, Running Shed Foreman S.L. Alikewela and fuel pumper K.A. Sarath Kumara of Railway Security Division of Anuradhupara Railway Station have been suspended. The theft took place on September 19, at the Anuradhapura Railway Station. The first investigation was conducted by the North East Security Assistant Superintendent R.B. Ananda Rathnamalala.
A special three-member committee consisting of North East Assistant Security Superintendent R. B. Ananda Ratnamalala, Running Engineer (External) U.G. Wijeratne and Assistant Transport Superintendent (Power Conservation) K.A. Kahandawa was appointed by Railway Chief Driving Power Engineer K.G.S. Bandara to carry out an investigation regarding this theft under the instructions of the Railway General Manager.
On the recommendations of the investigation committee, the services of five employees including the Station Officer of security division of the Anuradhapura Railway Station were suspended.
Meanwhile, another investigation is being conducted separately by the Anuradhapura Police Division Criminal Investigation Division regarding this theft of diesel.
