Five suspects in one family arrested for murder

Matugama Police arrested five suspects for killing a 71-year-old man in Welippenna on December 23. The suspects are members of one family, Welipenna Police said.

The deceased, J.G. Ratnasiri, was a resident of Welipenna. The suspects had allegedly assaulted him over a dispute. Ratnasiri had been admitted to hospital after the assault but he had succumbed to his injuries, while he was under treatment.

Police arrested the five suspects including two women after the youngest son of the deceased made a complaint to the Welipenna Police in this regard.

The Matugama Magistrate had ordered the Police to investigate the murder and submit a report to Court and to remand the suspects for 14 days.
