Five women who attacked a group of Vakarai Police officers who were raiding an illegal liquor business have been arrested by the Vakarai Police.
Among them, three women were arrested on October 25 and two were arrested yesterday (26).A team including Police Inspector Anil attached to Vakarai Police Station raided a house in Kadiraveli, Vakarai, on October 25, according to information that there is an illegal liquor trade going on in that house.
Police found 26,250 ml of goda and filtering equipment in a bathroom of the house. The police said that the owner of the house screamed when they attempted to take the alcohol and equipment into police custody, whereupon five women, who were neighbours, came to the place and abused and assaulted the police officers.
A female constable was injured and admitted to the Vakarai Hospital.
Police brought the situation under control and arrested three women. Police said that they are residents of Kadiraveli and their ages are 47, 43 and 27.
The other two were arrested yesterday. All five suspects were scheduled to be presented to the court. The women have been arrested for interfering with the duties of the police officers.
