Five year plan for conservation, management of coastal resources

The five year plan (2024-2029) for the conservation and management of coastal resources was declared yesterday.

The Sri Lanka Coastal Conservation and Coastal Resource Management Plan (2024-2029) was presented to Urban Development and Housing Minister Prasanna Ranatunga yesterday at the Ministry premises.

The Coastal Conservation Department and the Coastal Resource Management was assigned with the task of formulating a plan for the conservation and management of coastal resources under the Coastal Conservation and Coastal Resource Management Act.

A plan for the conservation and management of coastal resources should be updated every five years taking into account the changing conditions and it was done lastly in 2018. This plan has been prepared for the conservation and management of coastal resources for the next five years (2024-2029) by updating the last plan.

This plan is to be presented to the Cabinet and approved. The Department of Coastal Conservation and Coastal Resource Management will implement this plan from next year after receiving the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers.
