The UAE Prosecutor General says a Flydubai co-pilot attempted to carry out a “terrorist act” aboard flight FZ1073 by attacking the captain with a crash axe and attempting to take control of the aircraft.
The Dubai-Tel Aviv flight, carrying 174 people, was diverted to Saudi Arabia after the incident.
UAE authorities say an investigation is under way to determine the motive and any related connections.
He said the investigation is under way “to uncover all the circumstances of the incident, its motives, and related connections, in addition to completing technical examinations and examining physical and digital evidence”.
The final results will be announced as soon as the necessary procedures are completed, al-Shamsi said.
