Foot-washing waterway opens across Kataragama Menik Ganga
Sri Lanka’s first natural foot-washing waterway built at Kataragama Menik Ganga was opened to the public yesterday during a ceremony participated by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardene and President’s Chief of Staff Sagala Ratnayake.
This has been built at a cost of Rs.50 million according to a concept by Basnayaka Nilame Dishan Gunasekara.
Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Dewalaya’s Basnayaka Nilame Dishan Gunasekara said that this waterway will become an interesting attraction for Sri Lankans as well as foreigners.
The visitors who come to the Kataragama Dewalaya enjoy strolling in the naturally flowing waters of the Menik Ganga, he added.
The labour support was provided by the Sri Lanka Air Force.
The waterway was built near the Menik Ganga No. 02 Bridge.
