Foreign employment agent sentenced to 15 years, fined Rs.50 Mn

Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis yesterday (4) ordered a 15-year prison sentence for a foreign employment agent from Rosmead Place, Colombo who was found guilty   of 15 cases of fraud by claiming to offer jobs in Japan through the Internet. According to the evidence presented after calling the 15 cases related to the incident, the Magistrate decided that the complaint was proved beyond reasonable doubt and decided to convict the suspect.

In addition to this, the Magistrate ordered the suspect to pay back the sum of Rs.50 million taken from the victims and ordered an additional imprisonment of six months for each case totalling almost eight years, for failure to pay the money.
