Foreign tourist killed after paramotor crashes into sea off Bentota

A foreign female tourist was killed after a paramotor (motorised paraglider) used for recreational flights crashed into the sea off Bentota this afternoon, Police said.

The accident occurred at around 4.30 pm in Bentota.

According to Police, the paramotor, operated by a private company offering aerial rides for tourists, developed a mechanical fault while in flight and crashed into the sea.

The pilot and the female tourist, believed to be an Arab national, were on board at the time of the crash. The pilot survived the accident, while the tourist initially went missing after falling into the water.

Her body was later recovered from the sea off Bentota and was sent to the Kalutara Teaching Hospital for post-mortem examinations.

Bentota Police are conducting further investigations into the incident. (Newswire)
