Former Army boxer Bandulasena passes away

Former Army and Sri Lanka boxer K.A.D. Bandulasena passed away yesterday after a brief illness. He was 62 at the time of his death.

One of the finest products of legendary St Mathews College, Dematagoda boxing coach late T.G. Somapala, Bandulasena was a former Feather and Light weight national champion, being adjudged Best Boxer at the National Championship on one occasion.

“He was a very disciplined and dedicated boxer who was a good team man,” said his Army team mate Capt. R.K. Indrasena (Rtd) paying a heartfelt tribute to the wonderful humane qualities of Bandulasena. Members of the Boxing Referees and Judges Association observed two minutes silence before the start of the North Central Province Boxing tournament in Polonnaruwa yesterday.

His remains lie at his residence in Rajagiriya.
