Former Chief Selector Pramodya files Rs 75 mn lawsuit against SLC Transformation Committee
Former Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Selection Committee Chairman Pramodya Wickramasinghe has filed legal action before the Commercial High Court of Colombo, seeking Rs. 75 million in compensation over the alleged unfair and improper termination of his appointment.
According to a press release issued on September 19, Wickramasinghe claims that his two-year appointment, which commenced on December 17, 2025, with the approval of the Sports Minister, was prematurely terminated by the Cricket Transformation/Interim Committee.
He alleges that the decision was taken without prior notice, sufficient justification or due process.
Wickramasinghe contends that the committee acted irrationally and contrary to the best interests of Sri Lankan cricket by abruptly terminating an existing contractual appointment.
Through the legal action, he is seeking Rs. 75 million in damages, together with applicable interest and legal costs, citing an alleged breach of contract, loss of income and damage to his professional reputation.
He maintains that he had set aside other professional engagements and business interests to dedicate his time and expertise to Sri Lanka Cricket after accepting the two-year appointment.
According to the statement, the premature termination deprived him of the remuneration he was contractually entitled to receive and resulted in additional financial losses arising from professional and business opportunities he had forgone.
Wickramasinghe also claims that the committee’s actions caused serious damage to his professional standing, credibility and reputation.
The statement highlighted several achievements during his previous tenure as chairman of selectors, including Sri Lanka’s victory in the 2022 T20 Asia Cup, reaching the final of the 2023 Asia Cup and winning the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier unbeaten. (Newswire)
