Former DIG Nalaka Silva acquitted from murder case

Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage yesterday (6) acquitted former DIG Nalaka Silva, who is on bail in relation to the conspiracy to kill former President Maithripala Sirisena, former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and a Police ASP.

The Magistrate made the order after considering the facts submitted by the Criminal Investigation Department to the court regarding the incident and the Attorney General had instructed to release Nalaka Silva as no evidence had been presented against him.

The suspect, Nalaka Silva, who has been released on bail, appeared in open court when the case was called.

The former DIG who was in charge of the Terrorism Investigation Division was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department in connection with the alleged conspiracy to kill former President Maithripala Sirisena, former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and an Assistant Superintendent of Police.

The case has been filed against DIG Nalaka de Silva and slain underworld leader Makandure Madhush.

Underworld leader Makandure Madhush died in a clash while in Police custody.

The CID investigated a complaint filed by Namal Kumara, the director of operations of the Anti-Corruption Force and referred the case to court.
