Former Galle Osusala storekeeper remanded over fraud

The former Galle Osusala storekeeper, the suspect in the theft of medicines from the pharmaceutical store in Galle to the value of over Rs.one million forty two thousand was arrested on legal advice and produced before Galle Chief Magistrate, Isuru Nettikumara.

The Galle Chief Magistrate ordered that the suspect be remanded till August 24.

The suspect Chandrasiri Rathnaweera had been working at the Galle Osusala in 2014.

It was revealed in court that the medicines that were delivered on three instances by Pharma Associates should have been paid on the three dates, February 14, 2011, March 8, 2011 and March 24 , 2011, totalling Rs. one million forty two thousand and two hundred and forty five, but because it was not paid, the company has complained to the Galle Osusale Sales Manager.

When the Sales Manager inquired regarding this from the Store Keeper, he has said that the consignment had not been delivered.

The Store Keeper is alleged to have not entered the consignment into the record books and instead he is alleged to have sold it to other suppliers.

Police on the said upon receiving instructions from the Attorney General’s Dept, a case be filed under the Public Property Act of the Penal Code.

The suspect was arrested and produced before the Magistrate and remanded.
