Former IUSF Convener Mudalige arrested

The Cinnamon Gardens Police arrested two persons including former Convener of the Inter-University Student Federation (IUSF) Wasantha Mudalige based on a warrant issued by the Court yesterday (27) evening.

The Police said that he was arrested in relation to a warrant issued in relation to a case pending in court regarding a disturbance that occurred during a protest in front of the University Grants Commission in 2020. The warrant had been issued on May 29. Police also mentioned that he was arrested near the Public Administration Ministry building.

Police said that he was not involved in any protest when he was arrested and there has been no incident of disturbing the peace. After his arrest, Mudalige told the Police that he had appeared in Court regarding the warrant. But since court has not recalled the warrant against him, steps will be taken to present him to court, a senior Police officer said.
