Former Mayor granted bail in obstruction case

Mount Lavinia Headquarters Police said that former Mayor Nawalage Stanley Dias was arrested for obstructing the duties of the Commissioner of Dehiwala Mount Lavinia and berating him.

Commissioner Chandana Krishantha Kumara Mannapperuma had been travelling in his car on Haramanis Lane Attidiya on for official business when the former Mayor of the Dehiwala Mount Lavinia Municipal Council had stopped the car and scolded him. Based on a complaint made about this, the former Mayor had been arrested.

The Commissioner had complained to the Police stating that the former Mayor who had stopped the car berated him saying why he was not asked to attend meetings and why were only the others being invited to do so. The former Mayor who was arrested has been released after being produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court.

Inspector Amarasekara is conducting investigations on the instructions of the Senior Superintendent of Police Mangala Dehideniya in charge of the Mount Lavinia Division and Superintendent of Police Saman Jayasekara and Mount Lavinia Headquarters Police Chief Inspector Dileepa C. Perera.
