Former PS TO gets 20 years’ RI, fine for bribe
A former Technical Officer attached to the Beruwala Payagala Sub Office who allegedly accepted a bribe of Rs.25,000 to issue an environmental protection and compliance certificate was yesterday sentenced to 20 years rigorous imprisonment by the Colombo High Court.
The accused was found guilty for the four charges in the indictment and he was sentenced to 20 years rigorous imprisonment by five years and it was also ordered to serve the sentence concurrently in five years. A fine of Rs.20,000 by Rs.5,000 for each charge was imposed against the accused and he was also ordered to pay the accepted bribe amount as a fine by the Colombo High Court.
The judgement was delivered by the Colombo High Court Judge Amal Ranaraja.
The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption had filed the case against the former Technical Officer attached to the Beruwala Payagala Sub-regional Office for accepting a bribe of Rs.25,000 while he was serving at the office on December 15, 2016.
