The Western Province South Crime Division yesterday said a person who worked as a tourist guide was arrested for breaking into financial
institutions houses and higher education institutions at night and stealing goods worth around Rs.3 million near the Dematagoda flyover.
Five laptops stolen by the suspect, a drone camera, two tabs, eight mobile phones, five liquor bottles,cameras, clothes, perfumes and three screwdrivers used in the theft have been taken into custody. The police said that all these thefts have been committed from financial institutions, houses and higher education institutions located in Mirihana, Kohuwala, Maharagama, Thalangama, Welikada, Kaduwela, Wellawatta, Kollupitiya and Kandana.
It is suspected that the suspect has committed all these thefts from the Dematagoda monastery road, and during interrogation, the stolen property was sold to various people in the Dematagoda area for a very low price.
