Four persons who illegally imported some goods worth Rs. 30 million to Sri Lanka without paying customs duties and other taxes were arrested by the Airport Police yesterday (19) morning.
Various types of laptops, iPhones, various mobile phones, mobile phone accessories, foreign-made cigarettes, jewellery, and various types of whisky, perfumes, and car spare parts are among the seized items.
Police say that these suspects travel to other countries including Dubai on a daily basis and bring goods to Sri Lanka illegally.
The suspects are residents of Kelaniya, Weeraketiya, Puttalam and Kollonawa. Police are working to find out their economic background and to take legal measures against them in the future. Suspects and this consignment of goods are to be handed over to the Katunayake airport customs officials for further investigation.
