Four of family arrested for assaulting police officers
A soldier, his wife and their daughter and son who tried to attack a group of Kataragama Police officers who went on a cannabis raid were arrested by Kataragama Police officers last Monday (31) night.
The family attacked the police officers with knives and an axe.
The police say that the soldier is from the Batticaloa camp.
A sub-inspector and two constables of the Kataragama Police went to their house located on Valliguha Road in Sella Kataragama on Monday (31) evening, on the raid.
Police said that when they went there, the soldier was cutting dry cannabis with a scissor. When they attempted to arrest him, he abused them with harsh words and tried to attack the officers with the scissor.
The wife, daughter and son too tried to attack the police officers with knives and an axe.
The police officers then retreated and asked the police station for an additional team. The residents tried to attack these officers too with their weapons.
Police say that the man is 43 years old and his wife is 41, while his daughter is 17 and his son is 20. They were to be produced in court.
