Four officers identified

The four officers arrested in connection with the death of a housemaid in Police custody were identified by witnesses during an identification parade yesterday. Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kekunawala ordered the suspects to be further remanded until October 2.

The deceased housemaid Rajkumari who was working at the house of Sudharma Neththikumara, a businesswoman, was taken in by Police on a complaint of theft.

It was revealed in Court that on May 11, 2023, two police officers came to this house in civilian clothes, took her to the Police station, assaulted her.

Afterwards she was admitted to the hospital where she died.

Five witnesses including Nethikumara, her driver and maid appeared before the Court for this identification parade.
