Four robbers, thinking that it was the house of a gas station owner, had entered another house in Gatahetta, Avissawella and stolen two mobile phones worth Rs. 200,000 and a camera, Police said.

When the robbers broke in, an elderly woman, her two daughters and two children of one of the daughters were in the house.

The robbers had broken into the house equipped with two firearms and a knife on last Saturday (10) night and threatened the residents demanding money from the gas station.

The house owners had responded that they did not have any money from the gas station and the robbers who searched everywhere of the house had taken away the two phones and the camera, police said.

The house of a gas station owner is next to this house and the robbers had broken into the wrong house, a senior police officer said. The suspects had arrived at the wrong house by a car, the police said.

The money collected at the gas station from last Friday was in the house of the gas station owner to be banked yesterday. The robbery was planned by someone who knew these details, Police said.

Investigations are continuing.
