Four students remanded over teacher’s assault in Puttalam
The Puttalam Police yesterday arrested four out of five students who were allegedly involved in the assault on the teacher in charge of discipline of the Muslim Maha Vidyalaya in Puttalam and damaged his house were remanded. Police said that a group of students sitting for the GCE (Ordinary Level) examination this year was involved in this incident.These students had come to the school yesterday according to a notice given them to collect their admission cards for the OL examination.
Some of these students had come to the school with long hair and beards and without shaving.
The teacher in question had warned these students to come in disciplined manner to collect the admission cards. However the students had gone back to their home, cut their hair and beards and dressed properly and returned to the school.
On the same evening these students had gone to the teacher’s house and assaulted him indiscriminately. Some of them have pelted at the teacher’s house too.The teacher was later admitted to the Puttalam Base Hospital. Police arrested five students involved in the incident and a police team has been deployed to arrest the fifth suspect.
Four students who were arrested in connection with the incident were ordered to be remanded till May 26.
